Default Oil loss/burn

Can running semi synthetic oil cause your engine to burn oil. Car always ran 5w30 regular oil and after putting in my cam, valve springs, and hondata i switched to semi synthetic.

The car currently has 210,xxxkms on it. runs amazing tho! (d16z6, mild build)
I just checked the oil the other day and it was quite low, never used to be like that around 10,xxx kms ago before the cam and oil switch over.

Any help would be awesome!

if you haven't touch the piston/valve seal etc since then, it might be worn out as it age. There's many factors that can burn you oil, might be simple valve steam seal or worn out piston rings.

Try to run thicker oil next time, it won't hurt your engine.

dont run thicker oil it can damage ur motor there are small oil passages that go all over the motor to the bearings and sutch thicker oil can cause a low flow because its thicker and will flow slower and cause oil starvation granted a little thicker may not hurt like 10w30 but dont grab like 15w40 or 70 or 80 weight

next time u drive ad the motors warn put something underthe car to c if it leaks oil thats most likely the problem

Running a thicker oil won't damage your bearing etc, and still flow tru the oil holes. It's just kinda a band aid to burn less oil if your not doing to fix what the main problem is. Its a old engine and being an d16 which is strong motor, and base on experience i ran my d16 15w 40 Castrol magnitec and i don't see any problem at all.

Even i use it to my doch zc which is thicker oil 20w 50, old engine i know, but cbf to rebuild it so i just run thicker oil and runs mint with less oil burn and no bearing issue.

Use high mileage 5w30. Do a compresion test to see if are the
PIston rings. Does the car smokes kind of bluish?

A compression test alone won't diagnose dying/dead rings. You need a leakdown test and a good ear for that.

If he does a compression test, and one cyl is down, he can then do a wet test to see if it goes up a decent amount then chances are it is the rings.

If he's not leaking it he's burning it. Chances are good it's the rings.
