Default timing belt tension/ adjustment bolt help

ive been banging my head on this issue for a few days now. b16a2 new timing belt is on but appears to be to tight to a point where my exhaust cam when lined perfect rises significantly. ive lined the crank up for TDC. Ive tried to loosen the tensioner bolt but damn thing wont budge. DO i need to release the spring first? any help on this will be awesome. this is the last thing i have to do to complete the motor.

belt fully on and cams lined

exhaust cam rising upward

Put a 14-mm socket on the tensioner adjusting bolt and loosen it by turning counterclockwise.

You need to have the can caps back on before tightening. Think about it, you're putting tension on one side so theoretically the other side will rise.

yea the only thing that stopped me from doing that was the fact that the exhaust cam was riding to high where i felt trying to put the cap back on would mess it up.

so it could be im just be over cautious about this. spent alot of money building the bottom end up and dont want to ruin all the hard work with a timing belt issue
