Icon3 About to san my ef, please, I need help

so i was wondering what kind of sand paper do i need to actually get off all the color on my car, the person who had it, had it as a project but didnt give a **** about it, so I wanna sand everything, bumper, fenders, doors, everything. Here is the twist they didnt sand the car to the metal or even primer, they just covered the final coat with another color so its basically two final coats on it, smh...
So please any help on this would be very appreciated and helpful i need to know what sand paper i need to buy and if i need any tools, i have a sanding block and sand papers from 200-400 i tried it but all it did was just get rid of the first coat to the coat right underneath it. So please if someone could help I will be a very happy person.

What are you trying to do? If the paint underneath is in good shape, I suggest chemically removing the "new" topcoat using as light a solvent as possible (try acetone or mineral spirits.) If you're trying to get down to original primer, you'll be sanding for a while with several different grits.

If you really want to do a color change and you have no tools, I suggest you stop before you even start sanding and consider whether you have an enormous amount of time and money to pour into this car. Changing the color of a car isn't easy by any stretch of the imagination.

If you DO have alot of time and money to put into the car, go out and read and watch as many tutorials on car painting as you can. I think it is wise to have a decent understanding of the project before you begin it. Best of luck.
