Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ
So Autoweek is gushing over the car. 2759lbs, lower center of gravity than the cayman, macpherson front, double wishbone rear, ..etc. I think these cars will be showing up at HPDE this summer. If any of you get one, or instruct a student in one can you please post your impressions.
I am also curious where this car will be classified with SCCA. Hopefully this puts pressure on Honda!

Me too! I like the simplicity, the relatively low weight, rear drive and no nonsense approach to this car. Maybe its time for a successor to the Prelude/S2000....

Re: Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ
Oh how I wish Honda had this car.
I'll will probably be down at the dealership this weekend to order the Hot Lava FRS. It's kind of sad to say but other than the race car, I soon won't own a Honda.
Also, if the resale value on these is low (not due to quality but due to how many will be modified and modifications often lower resale value) then I will pick one up in 5 years, maybe with a salvage title, cage it and race it. It would make for a wonderful car at a 10:1 lb/hp ratio class like Sport Touring in Conference.

Re: Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ
There's a local guy that autoxes one. He was lucky enough to be one of the initial 86. Runs in C stock IIRC. Took first in both days of races. It's not necessarily the fastest, but the damn thing corners like a go-kart.
I had the same idea as Rice Classic. 5 years down the road I'll be aiming to jump all over a used one of these. Toyota did this car right, and it'll be enough to win me back over to their side.

I dont know if anyone has seen the kit that Five Axis is putting out, but its soooo bad assssss!

Makes me wanna slap somebodys momma in the mouth!
Of course you cant stop with the aero kit, you have to do the new wheels and tires, suspension.......
Put a good high wing on this car, and man it should turn lots of heads.
Debating sprucing up a CRZ or this thing, i have to say im leaning toward the FR-S
Wooooooooooooooo!

Yesh, 5 axis kit, and some rims with that lovely puuuuring boxer sound. I still like the Genesis coupe at the moment. Good battle on the market right now for compact rwd.

Honda did this with the S2000.
However after speaking to both Subaru and Scion dealers near me they said they didnt plan on any dealer markup that the car would sell at msrp only unless options were added.
We shall see.

Re: Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ
I like the looks of the FRS better than the BRZ. I think I might go order mine this weekend (since it'll be over a month before it shows up).
The only question for me is.... Hot Lava or Firestorm?!

The fact that you have to debate that makes me think your momma should slap you in the mouth!

The HKS kit isnt carb legal. but im sure there will be options soon.
But since there isn't much of an option now.
I have to say ......... Firestorm!

Re: Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ
Like these two cars or not they are doing enthusiasts a HUGE favor. Entry level, no BS front engine rear wheel drive cars with Japanese quality. This category of cars could get huge and that can only be good for us enthusiasts. I was planning on getting an E36 M3 as my next car but I'm not so sure now considering the curb weight on the FRS, 400 lbs is a pretty big deal. At any rate I am excited to see where this whole thing goes.

Re: Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ
I dig them -- I drove a FR-S this past weekend am very impressed - Fit and Finish for a $25k car is nice, driver position is great, handling feels good (remember it was just a basic test drive so didn't thrash it too much).
definitely needs about 75 more horsepower to really be a blast to drive, that will be done soon in the aftermarket i am sure
Should be an awesome track day car -- brake pads, fluid, coilovers and tires and you are going to enjoy the heck out of it on track.
i foresee these doing great for performance oriented minds for quite some time

COMPACT rwd? Have you SEEN a Genesis? That is a big car, and in no way could it be considered a compact. We have a trio of them in the CTCC, and they are 5 inches wider than a 2006+ Civic. 5"!

They are almost a foot longer than the BRZ.
I picked up my BRZ on the 24th of May and I'm loving it.
Side note: There is a 75page BRZ thread in GDD which has a lot of great info in it.
