Icon6 Spark plugs replacement question, Accord 2006

Hi there:

A friend of mine went to the auto mechanic and he is been charged $150.00 to replace the spark plugs.

He jumped when he heard the price, but the mechanic states that the 2006 Honda Accord must be connected to the computer or whatever to reset the sensors, such procedure is done everytime the spark plug are changed on that specific model.

Is this true? I ask as many new vehicles come with tons of sensors and chips that older cars do not have, but I am not sure if it applies in this case. Also, just talked to me and the mechanic said the spark plugs must be hooked up to some computer to set them before they go into the engine.

If this was a V6 engine, I can understand it costing that much. The spark plugs would be more than half that cost. If it's a 4 cylinder, he got hosed. There is no reason to hook the car, or the plugs up to a computer. All you can do to a spark plug is adjust the gap, but the plugs should be set from the factory, and even if the gap was off, you use a feeler gauge to set the gap, not a computer.

Aren't Iridium plugs around 7 to 8 dollars a piece, making it 50ish something dollars on a V6 maybe more because of tax?

The mechanic is charging $100.00 per hour then again I do not know if on V6 engines manifolds, plastic covers etc must be removed making it more labor intensive to change them.

The lowest price I've seen for the iridium plugs is $9.99 at Autozone. They are about $12.00 from a dealership. That's about $70 for the plugs, and $80 for installation. I would never pay someone else to install my plugs, but if you don't want to do it yourself, you have to pay the piper. If it's a 4 cylinder engine, $150 is too much, but it seems reasonable for a V6.

Friend informed me its a 4 cylinder, he is going to take to another mechanic. I would hook him up but he lives 5 hours away in Miami and he is clueless about torque, anti-seize compound.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
