Default Stripped oil plug.

I just bought a '93 Civic HB and when I bought it home to give it an oil change I found that the oil plug is stripped out. I might be able to unscrew it if I try hard enough, I just wanted to know if anybody knew any tricks that I don't know about to get it off.

Not bad, will need to drive it to my Dad's for a welder. Any other ideas before I go do that instead?

Get a grinder, knotch a groove in the center, get your biggest/heaviest flathead, try from there. You can try Vise-Grips.

That'll work. Thanks. Tried the vicegrips. They just slipped around on the plug like the wrench did. Someone did a real number on it, multiple times.

If whoever did this was stupid enough to not only strip the oil drain plug, but to keep using it and stripping it more and more each time -- now I have to look at every single facet of this car to see what other stupid crap might have been done to it.

Worst case senario, you have to pull the oil pan while its full ($#@%$#@mess) and replace it with one that has a good plug.

You could get a socket that is smaller than the plug bolt right now and hammer it on there and then see if that works. The socket should be expendable though.

get a strip bolt remover from Sears. It is like $20. Make sure you buy the metric version.

worked for my stripped bolted on the CAT.

Good Luck

I just ran into the same problem. I took the pan off and drilled out the hole and welded a 3/8" pipe fititng in. (flush with inside pan) then using a 3/8 pipe plug as a drain plug
