Default What weight oil to use for a Turbo Application?

I am currently running 5w30 oil but was wanting to know if I should go with a thicker oil before my next oil change which is coming up really soon. I was thinking of switching to 10w30 since the car is mostly driven in warm weather. Do I need to go thicker than this even? Would it hurt if I did? This is for a turbo D16 by the way.

Thanks.

All depends on what kind of temperatures you are exposing your car to. I use Mobil 1 10w30 for Tx weather. Seems to do pretty good so far. Check my sig for my engine.

Hot and humid midwestern weather about 75% of the time. The rest might be in the fall or spring. Rarely in the winter time.

I run 10w60 full synth Castrol Formula RS and change it every 6000 miles. No problems and all the daily driven cars which my tuner build up like an Nissan 200sx, etc run with this oil.

My engine needs no oil either and I have an oil cooler with thermostat too.

WHen I switched to 15W50 Mobile one, the oil slowed my spool time by nearly 1000 RPM.. <------Pissed me off because this is the oil Drag recomended. WHen I switched back to 10W30, everything went back to the way it was suppossed to be... Plus, running oil this heavy is not recomended by Honda, you may be slowly destroying your ring and bearings, and not even realizing it till it is too late. I am willing to bet that if you go back to 10W30, you will be on boost much faster, and your engine will live longer..

Go 0w-30!!

Okay, I think that 10w is fine. **** really 5w is fine. Unless you do ROAD RACING. If it's just street, use 5w or 10w. If you go road racing, go with something thicker. I've seen NA cars use 15w some even 20w for road racing for about 6 hours striaght. That'll get your engine hot.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but since the W number is the viscosity when cold so it does not really matter as you don't drive about with a "cold" engine all day, and the more stable the cold/warm viscosity is the better?

The engine is likely to be running hotter with the turbo (depending on setup) so it might be wise to use a thicker oil as a thinner one may be fine normally, but too thin for a hot running boosted motor ? Perhaps that's why drag recommend the 50?

Any comments?
