92 Accord: Oil in spark plugs
Hi,
I have oil in my spark plugs.
About 4000 miles ago I was getting oil in the spark plugs, so I had the valve seals replaced.
What could be causing the valve seals to go bad (other than adding too much oil)?
Thanks,
Scott

Re: 92 Accord: Oil in spark plugs (smetzger)
What exactly is meant by oil IN your spark plugs? I assume by the post you mean on the combustion chamber side and not in the spark plug tube where the wire goes....if that's the case then obviously you need a VC gasket, etc. There are more things than just valve seals that can allow oil into the combustion chamber. It could be going past the rings or it could also be a bad PCV valve. How much oil is it using? Is it smoking at all?

Re: 92 Accord: Oil in spark plugs (smetzger)
Just to be sure, do you mean oil ON the spark plugs (the part that goes in the cylinder) or oil IN the spark plug holes (where the plug wires attach)?
If it is the former, it could be the valve seals or oil leaking past the piston rings.
If the latter, there are two places the oil can get into the spark plug holes. If you're lucky, it is the four seals aournd the spark plug holes in the valve cover. A valve cover gasket kit should include the gasket, four o-rings for the plug holes, and grommet/wahsers for the valve cover nuts. If that doesn't fix it, then the o-rings under the rocker supports need to be replaced, this is more involved than the valve cover gasket.. You should be able to find instructions for both if you search this site.

Its oil where the plug wires attach.
A valve cover gasket kit was installed 4000 miles ago. Not sure if the o-rings were replaced, I believe they were.
Thanks,
Scott

don't just assume, make sure if they were or not.
Also, remember that there are upper tube seals and lower o-rings that seal oil from getting into the spark plug tubes.
