Default p1399 code

hello guys i'm tryin to figure out wuts wrong with my friends car. i already changed a ect sensor and changed spark plugs after getting a missfiring in cylinders 1,3,and 5. erased all those except for p1399 code.

the car shakes at random times and it sounds the like the manifold makes a hming noise like from a stereo which is weird and thats all i gottta go by. does anyone kno what i should look for?

tranny fluid is low
engine oil looks really dirty
one of the cables on the throttle isn't their.

and i don't think i'm leaving anything out lmk if u guys have any ideas. on where to pin point this problem thnx

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak.

Grab a can of carburator cleaner and spray around the intake manifold area with the car running. If the idle surges, you've found your leak.

P1399 is a temporary code for multiple misfires and is usually not listed in the manuals. What year and model is the car and have you run a compression test and checked the timing? If this is a J-series V6, have you checked the valve lash?

Usually, but not necessarily. A loose valve will tap, but a tight valve won't. The exhaust valves are known to tighten up while the intake valves loosen up in these engines.

By timing, I meant camshaft timing.

I had this problem...turned out it was the intake manifold leaking, but I couldn't tell with the carb cleaner test. I had to do a smoke test.

We had this code plus other misfire codes for specific cylinders. The problem was that the ignition coil pack for the #6 cylinder had failed. After the coil pack was replaced, runs as good as new.
