Default Car died after getting gas & puddle last night

2004 D17 Civic Ex

Last night drove through a pretty bad puddle. Drove on to the coffee shop and then home. This morning woke up and drove to gas station. Tank was right on empty. Fill it up, I drive maybe 3 miles and the car just dies when coming down a hill to a stop at a light. I try to re-crank the car but it just turns and turns without firing.

It's parked waiting on a tow or an idea.

I have read that the crank position sensor could have gotten wet since it is so low on the car. Or, maybe something else dealing with running it very low on gas?

On my 1991 Jetta you can unplug a coolant sensor and get the car to run in limp mode if your crank sensor isn't working. Is there a similar thing I can do on the 04' Civic to get it to run to drive it home?

I looked at the fuse bank but didn't see a fuse I liked that would correspond to the crank sensor.

Cheers,

Stan

Also, forgot to mention, it sounds like it is turning over really fast when I try to crank it without firing. Maybe slipped timing and lost compression?

I am trying to find my compression tester right now....

Might be a broken timing belt. When mine broke, it had similar symptoms. Fortunately no valve damage. How many miles since last timing belt change?
