Default Help! Power locks don't work!

Hi.

I have a 99 Civic LX with power locks.

It works 10% of the time. The 90% of the time is slamming the door REALLY HARD to make them work.

I have no idea what could have caused this.

My power door locks would work but ONLY if I slam my door 2-5 times HARD.

It happens when I lock it outside and inside.

Plus, I am a beginner and 16. So keep it simple please.

Thank you for reading!

My guess is broken leads in the door jamb boot, it is a common problem, mostly on the drivers door as it is used, [opened/closed] far more then pass. door. 94

Is it an easy fix?

Is it expensive to fix? DIY?

It is a bit of a PITA, the best way is to unplug the door harness at the A pillar, remove door panel and speaker and pull the door jamb boot, [and harness] into the door and then out the speaker opening, that way you can remove tape and slide the boot down the harness to access the damaged part, [or to see if there is damage].

Hint, just because you do not see broken leads does not mean there is no damage, pull on each lead, if it "stretches" the wire is broken inside the insulator, [common].

The best way to repair the wire is to cut a section out and add a longer lead and connect, [solder and shrink tube] at each end, that way the "bending" will not be at the connection, the best possible fix is to replace the door harness. 94

Replacing or repairing the harness is pretty much the same, as far as getting the door harness out to replace it or repair it.

Broken leads in the door jamb boot is only a possible problem, you need to check before you go and replace the harness. 94

Okay. I'll probably get a friend on it.
