The snap ring is something that is connected to the rear drive axle or something like that. People that drive their NSX normally (not drop clutch at every stop light) should be in good snap ring mode. After years of wear of lesser years of pure abuse, the ring tends to get pretty weak and may eventually snap. This however is common and from what I understand, isn't brain surgery to fix but may cost a pretty penny. I myself am looking to get an NSX and have been looking for a long time now. Its that $$$ thing that stumps me. But as the years go on, the cost is lower and lower for the same Modern Classic NSX.

Hey, check out http://www.nsxprime.com theres a forum there.

Oh yeah, autotrader.com is always an excellent source. I go there at least once a week.
Dont let the mileage get you down either because if you think about it, the average car is driven 15K a year.
Take a 1991 NSX with 100K miles, thats still less than 10K a year. You can find a 91-02 NSX on autotrader with 68,000 miles for as low as $25K.

thanks SiTeej! yea, those are the places i was checkin out too! glad to hear that the ring wasnt devastating to the car, got a little worried when every other ad i read said snap ring was ok...yea, thats true about the mileage and besides, its a honda and their flagship at that! im sure if their taken care of those things will run easy 250-300k miles. mileage is the furthest thing from y mind with a NSX

Check http://www.nsxprime.com for info on the snap ring (check the sections(s) on transmission if there isn't one directly on snap rings).

Also, I'd be suspicious of any NSX under 30k. If it's that cheap, there's a decent chance it's got issues, maybe even a salvage title or something.

Nah Grippy,

Some people have just grown tired of their NSX's and want/need to get rid of em. The worth on a 91 NSX these days with 100,000 miles is only about $27K according to Kelley Blue Book. NADA sets it at $27K-$30K. I do my homework on things like this because I am such a big follower of the car. Most of them that are $30K and under have 90,000- 110,000 miles on them. You almost have to sell em that cheap because few people want a really nice car (some consider exotic) with all those miles. A friend of mine up here in Michigan bought a black 92 last year with only 27K miles on it for $37K.

Ok, for 90-100k miles, sub-30 is ok. But I think the sweet spot is to get one around 60-70k that's already had the t-belt and waterpump done. Of course, if you get one a 90k, then they would have HAD to get it done no matter what service intervals they're going by. And the motors are certainly good out to 150k+.

But I certainly wouldn't got for a 91 with sub 50k miles that was going for less than 30k. That'd just seem fishy.

Yeah, I hear ya on that one. I've seen some 91's and 92's with like....20K miles on em for close to $50K. I can see why because so little mileage, but I would probably just go ahead and spend the extra $6K and get a newer engined 97 for around $53-$55K.
