Forged pistons on stock rods?
I'm buying a set of Wiseco pistons (turbo version for B18A/B/C). I've read that the piston is the weakest link, so I'm upgrading that and I think with proper tuning and good maintenance, the stock rods should be okay (250-300hp). Would there be any problems mating the pistons to the stock rods? Is there any modification that's needed?
Also, could someone give me the compression these will give in a LS longblock? I've tried to use the compression calculator, but couldn't find the cc's on the pistons. I thought it was -12cc but that gave something like a 8:1 compression ratio.

You'll need to have the wristpins pressed out of the stock rods/pistons and then have the new pistons fitted onto the new wristpins and old rods. They use a special jig to install them that heats the **** out of the small end of the rod so that it expands enough to fit around the wristpin, then when it cools, voila, interference fit. I was told by my shop that you wont need the wristpin retaining clips since the wristpin is very securely held by the small end of the stock rod. The clips are used with a bushed (floating) small end type rod like Eagles. I didn't use them but it probably doesn't matter since you'll have plenty of wiggle room for the big end to float on the crank either way.

Does the interference fit add much stress to the rods? Is it substantial enough to weaken the rods?

It does add stress but that's the OEM design. It's not just that you have the interference fit with aftermarket pistons and stock rods, OEM pistons and rods are the same way. I'm sure Honda took the interference stress into account when they designed the rods.

why go threw all the trouble of fitting the pistons on stock rods and worrying if it will hold the power or not when u can just get some barely used eagle LS rods for very cheap. I have some forsale PM me.

Originally I was just going to go on a stock block and just boost it for about a year and I won't really care if a stock ls block is blown. A stock ls block can be had for the price people pay for forged rods or pistons. With pistons, rods, the motor is still not bulletproof.
However, I think I've found a good deal on a set of forged pistons and since the pistons are the weakest link, I'll feel a little bit more comfortable about boosting.
To sum it out: I don't have much $$$$. Broke student trying to make a quick car===bad combination

With all the picts of broken ringlands I've seen, I think you have the right idea. If your goal is less than 300 you might not need to swap rods. Can anybody running stock rods with over 300hp chime in here with some experiences?

Stock honda rods are VERY strong.
If the motor isn't reved past 9000 and tuning is taken care of, the rods can easily take 500+HP (sorry about being vague).

I have ARP rod bolts on my ls/vtec (revs nicely on top end).
However, I've read that ARP rod bolts are only needed for high rev application. But for about $40, it's not that bad.

piston slap isnt bad after the car gets to operating temp. i can barely notice it anymore. props to everyone who gave the stock honda rods credit, if they can use them for a top speed record on the salt flats they can be used in my car.
