Cam Gear weight: AEM vs. Skunk2
For inquiring minds that want to know, Skunk2 cam gears are lighter than AEM cam gears.
I have both of them right here the AEM is defintely heavier. You can pretty much already tell because the skunk2 a smaller internal piece, but anyways it's lighter so I expect it spins better freeing up hp!
Every little bit helps

Skunk2 cam gears are really nice especially when you consider they can be had for under $200 shipped if you look around. I doubt you'll notice a difference from the weight though even with oem cam gears.

it's the same concept as lightweight wheels...rotating mass has a big impact when you consider weight.

I'm gonna guess the stock gears are even heavier....I was surprised at the difference between the AEM and Skunk2...
Skunk2 gears plus my super strong belt = one badass rotating assembly!

While we are on the subject of cam gears, i was thinking of getting some AEM's but one of my friends told me that they can do more harm than good on your engine by decreasing the engine life is this true?

oh, when you said bottom, i was thinking lower, as in the one near the crank pully. if i was you, i would just cut the one behind the gears off. screw taking the timing belt off to get that out.

used to run skunk2's on my h22a about 2 years ago. i personally didn't like the the actual quality of the gears.
str used to have the best ones in my opinion.

Ive always heard horror stories about the AEM cam gear because it only has 3 bolts and can slip, whereas the skunk2 cam gear has 6 i believe.

whoa old school post. Usually cam gears are installed with new cams, so whatever a cam install costs cam gears are usually included.

Re: (19924ws)
I had 3 to compare... the h22a skunk2 i had were extremly lighter than aem... also to fit the new style skunk2 you need to grind the plastic part of the cover.. (the half moon to clear, because the bolt is exactly the lenght needed to fit.. so when you clear the spacing you actually go through the plastic.. here is a pic to compare..
look at the plastic cover...
this is my h22a built motor for my ek, mind you the headers different,so is the intake and other things
More PoWA!
ahhaah
