Default Automatic shift RPM

What is the standard shift rpm for a civic with an automatic. I have a 2003 honda civic lx and the way i drive the car seems to shift at about 3500 rpm and 4000 rpm. Is this common or am i just pushing the car too hard. Do you think i may be hurting the engine or transmission.

Thanks people
