Default What causes power windows to roll up/down slowly?

Our cars are all 10+ years old and I'm sure you've noticed (you with power windows) that the windows can go really slow sometimes.

I'm just curious what it is exactly that wears out? Just the motors? Do the tracks need to be regreased with new motors?

Are the motors sometimes called regulators, or is that a different part all together?

Just wondering what exactly I need to buy to get all my windows like new again

could be the wiring.. maybe not enough juice going to the motors..

also try greasing the tracks and see if that helps. If all else fails get new motors.

Most of the time the run channels get dried out and start coming out of the metal tracks. Replace them cuz if you try lubing them it works for a bit them starts acting up again. I've yet to find a good lube for them. Trust me try this first.

BTW, I work at a body shop so I see this all the time

So you don't think it's the motors failing/wearing out?

If its just one window I would say its a possibility. Especially if it was the drivers one since that one gets the most use. I still say even if it was, replacing the rubber run is less money and less work to try first.

well 3 of them are very very slow and 1 of them is like out of track (or out of the rubber weather stripping channel), so I haven't tried it; i'm afraid to get the window stuck sideways or something.

These rubber runs....are these the weatherstrip pieces that run the entire perimeter of the window? Or something that is secluded to inside the door?

Well they go slow with the car running [and they are running off of the alternator]....it's not a power problem.

The rubber runs are separate. they run the entire perimeter of the glass except for the bottom of course. try lubing them first with some soap and water. If they get better its the run channels. As for the one out of the track unbolt the frt or rear track to loosen up the glass and push the rubber back in.
